1 The greeting: As-salamu alaykum
When we meet someone we say «As-salamu alaykum», which means «Peace be upon you». The answer is «Wa alaykum as-salam», «And upon you be peace». Greeting with a smile is a small gesture that brings a lot of joy.
2 Bismillah and Alhamdulillah at the table
Before eating we say «Bismillah», «In the name of Allah», and we eat with the right hand. At the end we say «Alhamdulillah», «Praise be to Allah», to give thanks for the food. We do not waste food and we do not criticise the dishes.
3 Respecting parents
Allah asks us to be good to our parents. We help them at home, speak to them kindly and listen to them. When they are tired or old we take care of them, as they took care of us when we were little.
4 Always telling the truth
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was called «Al-Amin», the trustworthy one, because he always told the truth. Even when we make a mistake, it is better to say so honestly: the truth leads to good and makes others trust us more.
